Welcome to Chester-Montgomery County's first Geocaching Event! scMike43 and Softbyte attended the Berks County Third Wednesday event recently and had a really great time! We thought we should have a similar event more local to our geocaching community. This would be our formative meeting.
What is Second Thursday?
Second Thursday is an informal gathering to talk about geocaching and just socialize. It's a great way to get hints about caches that stump you, meet the faces behind your favorite caches (or the diabolical ones) and pointers for hiding your own caches.
Where is Second Thursday?
Our first gathering will be at a geocaching friendly local restaurant; The Main Street Café. They take cash and credit cards and offer individual checks. It is a BYOB and offer full free bottle service, so feel free to bring the poison of your choice!
Who comes to Second Thursday?
Everyone does. If you're a veteran cacher or this is your first one, it doesn't matter. It is always friendly and laid back. The "crowd" tends to be more adult, but there are usually a few youngsters at each event and they are always welcome.
When is Second Thursday?
It's the second Thursday of November; November 8th to be specific. This will be the first meeting so some of the discussion on the table will be a formal name for our group, meeting schedule and where we should continue to meet if all decide that this is a viable social event. We start at 5:00 and usually carry on till 7:30 at the earliest (sometimes we stick around till 8:30). If you can't make it for exactly at 5:00, no problem. You're not considered late unless you arrive after everyone has left (by that time the Café will be closed!). It isn't uncommon for cachers to show up after 7:00 with the majority of cachers coming in around 5:30 to 6:00.
Extra things to keep in mind: If you pick up a Travel Bug or trackable coin at one of the events, make sure you log it out so it doesn't show up in the events list. Bring your geocaching wares for sale or trade! If a trackable sits as being listed in the event for a couple of months, the cache owner is the one that gets the e-mail from the TB owner(s). WIFI available! Since we may be a large group, consider a gratuity of 15% to 18% which is not on the check.
Please RSVP or Log your intent before November 1st so that we can give the owners a rough head count and don’t overwhelm them! Thanks to Anthony Berdomas and Dean O’Conner for offering to host the first meeting!
