Geocache Description:

A P&G in a historic pocket park.

On April 9, 2009, the Burlington Free Press carried the surreal headline "Underhill Man Captured by Pirates." We hope you remember the rest of the story, including the heroic rescue by Navy SEALs after five nerve-wracking days. This cache is dedicated to our neighbor and friend Richard Phillips. The Phillips family lives not far from here; you probably passed their house on your way to the cache. After the family politely asked the media to please get off their property during Richard's captivity, this area was the central gathering point for the international news community. The large parking lot for the church is where the satellite trucks and their crews hung out waiting for word. The country store, which has excellent creemees in season and a sandwich called the Richard Phillips hero,* was covered with yellow ribbons, like most of the town, and appeared on the news every night until Richard was safely home. The movie "Captain Phillips," starring Tom Hanks, was released in October 2013.

Please search stealthily and replace securely.

*UPDATE October 2016: The Underhill Country Store has closed its doors, so no more Richard Phillips hero and no more maple creemees close to home.
