Welcome back to the Maple Highlands Trail in the Geauga Park District. This cache is placed with the permission of the Park District. You will be looking for a "pop top" container. Please be aware that the trail is open from Sunrise to Sunset. The parking areas are open later but the trail is a dawn to dusk trail.
I went to school for Forestry and Park Management that means that I had to take a class called Dendrology. Thats the naming and identification of trees. This cache is named after the kind of tree it's hidden in. Don't know what that is. Well "Acer" is latin and means Sharp and "rubrum" means red. The genus of the tree applies to other trees that are similar on a genetic level. Some examples are Acer saccharum and Acer pensylvanicum. The former of those examples is used locally to make something really sweet.
Scientists use names like Acer rubrum instead of its common name because some trees have lots of different names depending on where you live. One example is the Sugar maple tree. It is also known as Rock Maple and Hard Maple. So to avoid confusion they use a name that is the same everywhere.
As always please BYOP and be aware of muggles.
