jjh1660: I’m no longer able to maintain these caches and I don’t know when I’ll be back in Iowa. Would anyone want to adopt these? 😊

Geocache Description:

This is #4 of the 7 New Hartford caches.

As if the 2008 F5 tornado wasn't bad enough, a flood inundated New Hartford shortly thereafter.  It covered 90% of the town, leaving most homes uninhabitable.  Many town residents were able to rebuild, but 23 families had no choice but to move on and accepted the FEMA buy-out and these lots were sold to the city.  No one is alowed to rebuild on these lots so the "New Hartford FEMA Lot Restoration" was born.  New Hartford started improving these lots for gardens through generous donations and hours and hours of volunteer work. One of the major donators is Communies Take Root sponsored by Edy's Fruit Bars and the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation.  On May 31, 2012, New Hartford was one of 17 towns across America voted to recieve 20 fruit trees and irrigaton supplies.  The town has banded together and is turning New Hartford into "The City of Gardens."

This is wheel chair accessible unless there is a lot of snow on the ground. Congratulatons to krazyarde for the FTF.
