Geocache Description:

A 12 step multi that tours some of the Art Boxes closest to Downtown San Jose.

The Art Box Project SJ connects neighborhood activists and local artists, who paint creative works of art on the ubiquitous gray boxes scattered throughout the city. The Project goal is to "Capture the unique voices of our communities. Surprise the passer-by with a spot of whimsy where they least expect it. Oh yeah, and pilot this as an innovative anti-graffiti solution". You can find out more about Art Box Project SJ here: http://on.fb.me/T7qZ5z

As of August, 2012, there are 26 Art Boxes completed throughout San Jose. This tour will take you to 11 of them. If you don't want to depend on your GPSr, a map of the Art Boxes is included here as a photo.

You will be starting at the first Art Box created by the project (Waypoint # 1, which is at the listed coordinates). Follow the waypoints to each additional box and answer a question at each box to gather the information for the location of the final. At some waypoints, there are two boxes. For your purposes, treat them as one, and answer the question based on that. In all cases you do not need to look on any other object than the Art Boxes for your answer.

LOGISTICS: This tour can easily be done by bike or car (or a long walk). The waypoints are listed in the most convenient order if you want to do them all in one day, but, you do not need to do them in any particular order. If you follow the order listed, the total distance (including your return to the starting waypoint) is approximately 6 miles. The final will leave you slightly over a mile from the first waypoint, so a car can easily be left there while you bike the course. In fact, it might most easily be done on a bike, given access to river trails, and lack of parking issues. The 2.5 terrain rating is for distance - the terrain is almost completely flat. NOTE: The coords of each waypoint will get you very close to the Art Box, but may not be exact. Just look around...you'll see it.

A map of the trail system for the Guadeloupe River Trail (which will be helpful for bikers or walkers) can be found here: http://www.sjparks.org/Trails/images/Maps/MapGuadRiverDowntown.pdf

UPDATE: Two of the boxes have been changed or gone missing. Answers provided below.

1. A = 4
2. B = 3rd digit in the # listed on the side furthest from the street
3. C = 1 (temporary answer given until new art is painted) s
4. D = # of people
5. E = 0 ((temporary answer given until new art is painted)
6. F = Last digit in the # on the side furthest from Taylor
7. G = # of pennant flags
8. H = # of sides that are unpainted
9. I = 3
10. J = Look for a series of #’s & letters. Add the 3rd and 4th digits together.
11. K = # of letters in the first word, on the black side with white writing

FINAL: N37 DL.EFB W121 JI. ACK
Where L = G - (5xH)
Checksum for ALL digits in the Latitude is = 16
Checksum for ALL digits in the Longitude is = 22
There is access to the final 24/7.

WARNING: While many of the Art Box questions can be answered using Waymarking.com, there are pictures on that site could deceive you. You will likely not get all of the correct answers - and won't know which is which (and certainly won't get the full fun of the search).

Two passes to the San Jose Museum of Art, for the FTF. http://www.sjmusart.org/. The SJMA celebrates what is both innovative and traditional in art, and is well worth a visit.

Congratulations to Seek2FindMe & StarPop for a hard-earned FTF. Enjoy the museum!
