Geocache Description:

By the kids, For the kids

I hate to admit it but I lived in this area for almost 10 years before I finally got myself into the Lakes Region History Museum in Antioch. That is usually the first place I visit anywhere I go. Sometimes those little museums have some of the coolest stuff don’t they?! Well this one did not disappoint.

I was explaining to my 4 year old an exhibit about the Native Americans and Early Settlers here and the existence of a trading post. He was curious about what a trading post was. So I did my best to explain that before there were big cities with lot of stores around a trading post was a place out in the middle of the woods people could go to trade for things they need. There weren’t many of them and they were often hard to find. With that serious look a 4 year old has when trying to make a connection to things in his world he replied, “Like a geocache?” I could only laugh and lightly agree “kind of like a geocache.”

So this morning while my kids and I were making some new geocaches I thought of that story and decided to set up a trading post for us newer explorers to enjoy! Good Luck!
