We park at South Fork Park, cross the bridge, and then hike north along the river. After passing the tables, there are a few spots of trail that are mostly used by fishermen, and they can be a little muddy or overgrown some years. However, it is worth it as the trail then opens up to a broad path along the river shaded by enormous cottonwoods raining yellow leaves. We like to picnic about a half mile from the park at a clearing with large logs perfect for sitting. We did run into a moose and her young one last fall, causing us to scramble quickly away, but we have been here a dozen or so times and the little Slinks specifically ask to picnic here.
The cache is nearby, and I am embarrassed to admit that it has been safe in its hiding place for 2 years now. We just kind of got busy and forgot to list it. We have checked on it each year though, and it is ready to be found by happy hiking families.
