Geocache Description:

This cache has been placed at the landing zone of the Battle Born DGS's "Project Explorer" (click http://coord.info/GC3V7R0 to view the event page). Project Explorer was a high altitude balloon containing a payload which included video/still cameras, gps and ham radio tracking devices, as well as a cache container and numerous trackables. The trackable items that hitched a ride aboard Project Explorer to the upper atmosphere were brought to the event by attendee's.

Project Explorer was launched from the campus of the University of Nevada Reno, and was a joint effort between the Battle Born DGS, UNR BalloonSat Program, and KNPB. It travelled to an altitude of approximately 95,000ft before the hydrogen filled balloon popped, and the payload returned to this location via parachute. The trip brought the payload approximately 17 miles as the crow flies from its launch site.

All items on board the payload arrived at this landing zone safely, and the trackables were ice-cold from their extended stay at high altitude.

The landing zone is a beautiful area of Nevada high desert with plenty of pine and juniper with rolling chalk hills. The roads to the cache will require a vehicle with decent ground clearance. There was a (bumpy) road to withing 100' of the cache location, but it could become quite muddy during wet/snowy periods. 4WD is advised.
