This Geocache is now safe to find. There was a reported incident where a hornet nest was discovered and someone was stung. I notified the City of Salem and a representative sprayed the nest with two cans of spray to kill the hornets. The nest is no longer in the tree. It is now safe to search for this cache.
Your coordinates bring you to a dirt trail within a very special 883 acre Salem City Park; but, it is a wildlife refuge as well.
Before you begin your medium hike, please park safely and well off the road. Only park in an authorized parking lot and walk to the cache. I recommend the first parking lot on the right after you enter from River Road South . You can reach the Geocache from any lot in the park. The first lot offers the closest walking distance.
Today, this park is managed as a recreation area and a wildlife refuge and wintering grounds for the Dusky Canadian Geese. May I suggest that you imagine your search for this geocache as a warmup for the extraordinary amount of geocaches with varied degrees of difficulty and types that await you as you experience Minto-Brown Island's opportunities for GEO excitement. Imagine for a moment that this is your ticket to adventure which will include beautiful scenery, bike and hiking trails, nature at its best and the many other facilities this unique park has to offer with no fee.
In 1857 Isaac 'Whiskey' Brown made his way up the Columbia & Willamette Rivers from Astoria & established his home on this island that now bears his name. He found his home here without giving up on his search. Likewise, I encourage you in the pioneer spirit of our forefathers to not give up on your search either.
Anything worth finding is always worth searching for, right? Sometimes the best hide is the one right under your nose. Some might find this hide tricky; I prefer to call it only a small attempt at being stealthy. For those that are much more experienced than I, they will call this an easy to medium difficulty. It is all in the eye of the beholder. Where do you find yourself today; are you up to this challenge? I wish you well as you search for your ticket to Minto-Brown Island Park.
This is merely a symbolic ticket; so, please replace it in its natural position so others can search for it. Help maintain the natural and man made cammoflage. You have only four requirements. Bring a good workable pen, your GPS device, a willing spirit and most importantly the desire to think "outside the box."
You may now roam and search to your hearts content to reach or find this cache. It is within easy reach; so, please don't attack everything with a vengence in order to find the cache quickly. Be gentle and calculating while observing your surroundings. Remember the location for anything you move. Preserve the integrity of the cammo so those who come after you may enjoy the same or even a better challenge. Thank you for your consideration and the golden rule of geocaching.
