The western lowland gorilla primarily lives in Central Africa in the Congo Region. They are social creatures living in groups of up to 10 or so. There is typically one dominate male with multiple adult females. Though they typically live in a home range they are not particularly territorial and often overlapping home ranges of other gorillas.
The western lowland gorilla is the smallest subspecies of gorilla with males standing up to 6 feet tall and weigh up to 600 pounds though averages around 350 pounds. Despite their relative comparison to humans they are incredibly strong being able to lift many times that of a human.
The groups of gorillas typically dine on insects, fruits and other plant life. Occasionally gorillas are known to eat small reptiles. They often move throughout their home range due to humans. They are listed as critically endangered often being subject to poaching.
