How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

This CITO event starts at 00 12 12 12 12 as a prelude to the Five Dozen Mystery Event at 12 12 12 12 12.

Attendees will find litter and swap it for the coordinates to the sister event later in the day.

Bags for collecting litter will be provided but please bring your own torches and gloves.

Meet at the lower lookout at 00:12 am, pick up litter from the lookout area for ten minutes then gather for photos and to swap your litter for coordinates before heading home to bask in the glory and knowledge that when the sun's rays first alight on Mt Ainslie in the morning, it will be a much brighter and cleaner location that it was the day before.

Mt Ainslie Lookout is one of the most scenic vantage points in Canberra and one of the most used and abused. Many tourists stop here to view the city whilst munching and sipping their way through heaps of packaged goods. Unfortunately a lot of the packaging does not find it's way into any of the rubbish bins, but we can fix that.

Mt Ainslie is also the starting point and final location for many ACT geocaches such as The Pole Position Again, Just For The Views #4, Mt Ainslie Quarry and Basil's Mt Ainslie Meander to name a few, so I thought it would be good to 'give back' to the area by gathering geocachers together for a night-time cleaning run, aka a CITO event.
