Geocache Description:

Parking can be found in Matt's Lane or Norton Road. Please don't use the surgery car park during opening hours.

This cache takes you on a short walk alongside a little brook and through one of the many blackcurrant fields which are believed to supply Beechams for their cold remedies. The fields here that now make up the village rec have seen many events over the years - an Avro 504k plane was photographed here ready for take off being one of the first airborne pleasure flights from Stoke. 148th Royal engineers were photographed here in 1942, many of them were billeted in Stoke homes. Photos and more info can be found in the Stoke-sub-Hamdon history book. Stunning views of Ham Hill can be seen from here, and it is not unusual to see deer feasting on the blackcurrants and to find the odd fossil amongst the plants. Please email for help if you're stuck! We've upped the difficulty rating as it's proving to be more elusive than we had expected!
