Visiting Rio Grande is like stepping into a city full of contrasts. On one side, the visitor can admire the natural resource wealth of unique Rainforest Federal Forest Service, which is currently listed as a finalist for the nomination of one of the 7 Wonders of the World.
What in the past appeared like a town dedicated to the cultivation of sugar cane, the whole world today recognized as Rio Grande: City of El Yunque, the World Natural Heritage.
But there's more. The call Town stands out for its dynamism Yunque socioeconomic, cultural and commercial always continuously growing, thanks in large part to a tourism sector of hotels and Creole cuisine recognized first.

About 40 species of birds have habitat area for El Yunque National Forest. It is also the only refuge of the Puerto Rican parrot, an endangered species, despite the efforts of the Forest Service to protect it. In the forest there are six species of coqui and three species of snakes, among which we distinguish the Puerto Rican boa that can reach up to 90 inches long and is not poisonous.

Visitar a Río Grande es adentrarse en una ciudad llena de contrastes. De un lado, el visitante podrá admirar las riquezas en recursos naturales del único Bosque Tropical del Servicio Forestal Federal, que en estos momentos figura como finalista para la nominación de una de las 7 Maravillas Naturales del Mundo.
Lo que en tiempos pasados figuró como un poblado dedicado al cultivo de la caña de azúcar, hoy el mundo entero le reconoce como Río Grande: Ciudad de El Yunque, Patrimonio Natural del Mundo.
Pero aún hay más. La llamada Ciudad de El Yunque despunta por su dinamismo socioeconómico, comercial y cultural siempre en continuo crecimiento, gracias, en gran medida, a un sector turístico de hoteles reconocidos y una gastronomía criolla de primera.
El atractivo de un entorno natural con paisajes únicos, los pintorescos comercios y restaurantes así como la hospitalidad y el trato afable de su gente, bien merecen recorrer la Ruta Histórica y Turística de esta ciudad a cabalidad.
Unas 40 especies de pájaros tienen por hábitat el área del Bosque Nacional El Yunque. Es además el único refugio de la cotorra puertorriqueña, una especie en peligro de extinción, a pesar a los esfuerzos que realiza el Servicio Forestal para protegerla. En el bosque se encuentran, seis especies distintas de coquíes y tres especies de culebras; entre la que distinguimos a la boa puertorriqueña que puede alcanzar hasta 90 pulgadas de largo y no es venenosa.
