Geocache Description:


This is another Sporting Memory cache placed along the Amy Gillett bikeway.

This cache is dedicated to Ian Thorpe who is the most decorated Australian Olympian of all time, in terms of gold and total medals. His three gold and two silver at the 2000 Summer Olympics is the largest amount of medal by an Australian at any one Olympic games ever.  Ian was awarded with the Young Australian of the Year in 2000 as well as the World Swimmer of the Year 1998–1999 & 2001–2002.

His world records
Men's 400 metre freestyle world record holder (long course) that he held for almost 10 years between 22 August 1999 – 26 July 2009
Men's 200 metre freestyle world record holder (long course) which he achieved twice 23 August 1999 – 17 September 2000 & 27 March 2001 – 27 March 2007
Men's 800 metre freestyle world record holder (long course) between 26 March 2001 – 27 July 2005

His Olympic Medal counts
2000 Sydney 3 Gold and 2 Silver
2004 Atlanta 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze

His television Career
In 2002, he played the lead role in the reality television show Undercover Angels (Well Maybe this one we need to forget)
