Geocache Description:

Tetanus is a horrendously ugly infection, much like the ugly cache protection container found here. Tetanus is a bacterial infection, (Clostridium tetani), not a virus or disease. It is not contagious; the only way to get tetanus is through an unclean open wound. Tetanus is often associated with rust, especially rusty nails, but this concept is somewhat misleading. Objects that accumulate rust are often found outdoors, as are places that harbor anaerobic bacteria, but the rust itself does not cause tetanus nor does it contain more bacteria. The rough surface of rusty metal merely provides a prime habitat for endospores to reside, and jagged metal edges or sharp points afford the means to puncture your skin and deliver endospores into the wound.

Stepping on a rusty nail, impaling yourself on a rusty shank or even being cut by a rusty saw blade may result in a tetanus infection. The puncture wound is the perfect low-oxygen environment for the endospores to grow.

This cache is a perfect habitat for tetanus. It is rusty. It has jagged edges. It has sharp points. It has shanks. Be mindful of the dangers. Gloves would be a good idea, eye protection is advisable.

Measuring about 3 feet tall and weighing in around 200 pounds, the cache container should be easy to find. A boat, canoe or kayak is needed to get to the island, but patience will be needed to locate the log. Grope and probe until you manage to place finger prints upon it then blot a little ink in the appropriate space.
