Geocache Description:

Redbarn is approximately halfway along Youghal's long beach. For decades, a wellknown dancehall was located nearby, drawing patrons from throughout Munster. The beach is accessible to vehicles from the Gortroe side of the town, and many holidaymakers and daytrippers come here rather than the Front Strand and Claycastle areas to the east for a quieter life. Those who prefer more seclusion tend to head for the Pilmore area in the west.

The cache is a smallish tupperware box a couple of hundred metres along the beach from the end of the road. The more adventurous can drive on the beach, dependent on the tides. POST-PLACEMENT NOTE Driving on the beach should not be attempted i at night, ii if the tide is in, iii high on the sand close to where it meets land. Vehicles can be observed driving on the beach in this area most mornings, especially during holiday periods and in fine weather. However, during the halycon days of the old Redbarn Dancehall, pulling cars off the beach in the early hours of Monday mornings became a cottage industry for local farmers. Many lifelong unions were established as a result of such activities, but sometimes the effect was the opposite. Please accept my sincerest apologies for the failure to publish this intimate local knowledge earlier, and the pints are on me next Saturday night in Kilkenny.
