Be careful when walking to the cache location as it is a bit of a slope and is rocky. Don't want any slips, trips or falls. The track down to the cave is marked by white painted rocks. In summer or warmer weather be on the lookout for Snakes. Congrats geono FTF on 19/10/12
In December of 1863 a man by the name of Fred Ward robbed a toll-keeper in the Hunter Region. It is said that during this robbery Ward took on the name Captain Thunderbolt.
Captain Thunderbolt went on to become a feared bush-ranger. This cave is said to be one of his hideouts in the region and you can imagine why it was used. Being sheltered, in an area that would have been very difficult to negotiate and with an easy view of the valley this would have been a great hideout in Thunderbolts time.
In May 1870 Captain Thunderbolt was finally brought down. It was constable Alex Walker who killed Captain Thunderbolt near Uralla.
Thunderbolt's Cave can get a lot of visitors. In an effort to keep the cache safe please rehide it well.
