Amid the forest communities of the Tarkine are the twisted remains of lost human communities.
“The forgotten townships of Heazlewood, Whyte River, Magnet and later Luina (near the site of Whyte River) came and went at the whim of ore bodies and commodity prices. Homes, hotels, sawpits, forges, tramways and even, in the case of Luina, shops and streetscapes, are returning to nature beneath the Whyte Hill Lookout.”
More information is provided about the townships on the display board at the lookout.
On a clear day the view is superb. The lower lookout is wheelchair friendly, although the cache isn’t. The second lookout is slightly higher on the hill and offers views in a different direction. There’s plenty of parking and there’s even some seating provided.
The cache container is a micro with logbook only. Please bring your own writing implement.
