Geocache Description:

For years now stories have been told of a highwayman who had been hung for his crimes on this very spot. It is said that he used to hide out on Felton common and that before he died he hid a great fortune somewhere out there. Often after a heist he was seen returning from the common covered in mud.

Many people have searched for this treasure but so far no one has been able to find any sign of its existence.

Recently there happened to come into my possession a box containing some of the highwayman’s belongings. Amongst other things the box contained a picture and a letter that he had written while awaiting the gallows. He wrote that he regretted his crimes in life and was afraid that in the afterlife his ghost would remain in purgatory and that he would walk Felton common for all eternity.

It would appear that his fears were justified as over the years many people have reported seeing a ghost of a highwayman at this very location. Every time someone has approached him they have seen a face racked with guilt and then he has simply faded away.

It is my belief that if I approach this soul carrying some of his possessions that he may lead me to his treasure in the hope of gaining absolution for his sins. But I myself am an old man now, my legs are weak, and what use do I have for riches.

My one remaining wish in life is that someone will find the lost treasure and in the process finally grant the highwayman some peace eternal.
