Geocache Description:

A small cache located within the extensive mine workings of Skir Gut.

This cache is located inside the old mining remains which are so prevalent in this area, this particular workings being named Skir Gut and beign situated between Ter Hill and Skir Hill. The logbook is to be found inside a 35mm film container inside another small container. I placed this cache when walking directly over Skir Hill from the Hooten Wheals track that winds it's way from Hexworthy (via Dartmoor Dave's impressively sited cache) and I think in doing this it is easiest to avoid the worst of the difficult terrain caused by the mine workings, although near the cache there is still some up and downing in the workings. There are some small animal paths and quad bike tracks you can utilise over Skir Hill, but the whole area is fairly wet and it will still involve a fair amount of walking through knee high tussock grass unless you're lucky. It is a beautifully remote part of the moor though, but hostile in the wrong conditions. This cache complies with the DNPA agreement for geocaching - http://www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk/visiting/vi-enjoyingdartmoor/geocaching
