Geocache Description:

The Nile Chapel is located at Deddington beside the Nile River. This small chapel opened for worship in November 1842 and is the final resting place for artist John Glover and his wife Sarah.

John Glover (1767-1849) was an English/Australian artist during the early colonial period of Australian art. He was known as the Father of Australian Landscape painting and arrived in Tasmania in 1831. He is best known for his paintings of the Tasmanian landscape and is the artist who inspired the Glover Prize - an annual landscape art competion, the richest art prize in Australia. His grave is by the western wall and is not what you would expect for a well known artist.
