Beware the Wild Turkeys of St. Norbert! II. The first incarnation of this cache was located nearby, but kept getting muggled, so we decided to move it and change the container size.
A little known foe of the geocachers traipsing through the woods and fields of St. Norbert are the Wild Turkeys of St. Norbert! Flocks of ugly birds wander through yards and loiter in the middle of roads bringing even city buses to a halt. They’ve been known to chase small dogs, terrorize unsuspecting bikers, and snatch children (okay, maybe not the last part, but I think one gave me stink-eye once). They travel in unpredictable packs, going wherever they wish and leaving havoc in their wake (sort of like teenagers).
Wikipedia states, “Wild Turkeys are surprisingly agile fliers and cunning, unlike their domestic counterparts.” As we all know, everything on the internet and certainly Wikipedia must be true… but, we have personally witnessed many a flock of Wild Turkeys of St. Norbert perched in tall trees or on the rooftops, laying in wait for their next victim. Attack victims have been known to flail randomly and scream like little girls! Cunning, indeed.
Like the fabled Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog (from “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”) the Wild Turkeys of St. Norbert are often underestimated until it is unfortunately too late. If you hear a gobble-gobble-gobble or the flutter of feathers anywhere in St. Norbert, we beg that you heed our warning and RUNAWAY!!!
Additional Warnings: While you are on simultaneous turkey watch/geocaching, you should also watch out for the fence hidden in the shrubbery and there are also a few stray thorny bushes.
