Geocache Description:

School days were the best days of your life weren't they? And surely maths class was the best of all??
Solve a few "simple" maths questions that the kids find easy these days, and the cache will be yours.

These are all GCSE/Standard Grade level questions, so if you have a 16 year old student in the house this should be "easy" :-)

Calculate the area of the triangle correct to 3 significant figures.

How much does Sarah receive?

The temperature from a factory oven varies inversely as the square of the distance from the oven.
The temperature 2 metres from the oven is 50 degrees Celsius.
Calculate the temperature 3.5 metres from the oven. Give your answer to 2 decimal places.

A company makes cassette tapes.
The total cost, P pounds, of making n cassette tapes is given by the formula P = a + bn , where a and b are constants.

The cost of making 1000 cassette tapes is £58,000.

The distance between two points on a map is 5 cm correct to the nearest centimetre.

(a) Write down the (i) least upper bound of the measurement (ii) greatest lower bound of the measurement.
(b) The scale of the map is 1 to 20 000. Work out the actual distance in real life (in kilometres) between the upper and lower bounds. (you need the answers from a to work out b)
