Geocache Description:

Welcome to "Spider Cache 2: The Night Spider", an offset cache made for nighttime caching. There aren't many nighttime geocaches in the Miami area and we wanted to hide at least one, so we decided to hide it in this fun-to-get-to-and-not-too-hard-to-get-to spot. While it's possible to do this geocache during the daytime, we strongly recommend saving it for the darker hours so that you can have the unique experience of cachin' by flashin' (e.g. using a flashlight). We also recommend that doing such a night cache is better if done with more than one cacher, in case of that dreaded twisted ankle or saber-toothed tiger encounter.

To find this geocache, you will need to follow a trail of fire tacks (tacks that will reflect the light of a flashlight back at you, often used by hunters to mark a trail) that you'll see at the bottoms of numerous trees. When you spot one of them, you know you've been going in APPROXIMATELY the correct direction for the last 20 feet or so. There is always another fire tack within flashlight's distance of where the current fire tack is located, toward the middle or bottom of a large tree trunk, small tree trunk, or stump...so once you find one, sweep the area ahead to see if you can catch the glint of the next one.

The posted coordinates, obviously, are NOT the final destination. They ARE your starting point. Enter here. You'll know you're in the correct spot if you can spot the fire tack on a nearby tree...the first tack may be partially obscured by leaves but can clearly be seen from the correct angle.

You'll know you've reached the final location if you see three fire tacks instead of the single tacks you encounter en route. You'll be near a small cluster of trees, in which case the cache is only a few feet away...at that point, let your geosenses take over! The final is a medium-sized racquetball container wrapped in camo tape. It can fit a few small items of swag. Bring your own pen to sign the log.

Oh, and why is it called "Spider Cache 2"? Wellllll........beyond the fact that I already own a geocache called "Spider Cache", if you're not careful where you walk as you make your short trek through this tree-friendly area and/or if you don't have a stick as your advance scout, you may just stroll face-first right into the answer....!

Cache on!

SIDENOTE: The location for the final was moved on December 11, 2017. Near the original final, there was a small homeless encampment and, while I don't know if anyone still uses it, it's still in there, so I've moved the final in the opposite direction.
