Geocache Description:

Small tube cache by the Roman Wall in Colchester (note NOT placed on the Roman Wall)

Jap and VonKeiller live in the original Roman Capital of Britannica. Jap particularly loves Roman history and felt he needed to place a cache near a monument of this once great empire. This is it- good luck. (PS see the wall in all its splendor)

Camulodunum became Roman Britannica's first capital after the Romans invaded the island in AD 43. The Emperor Claudius visited the town in celebration of the invasion (bringing elephants with him).

In 60 or 61 AD Boudicca (leader of the Iceni) led a revolt against the Romans. With the Trinovantes, Boudicca led an assault on Camulodunum and burned the city to the ground, killing all its Roman inhabitants. Once the revolt had been squashed, the Romans rebuilt Camulodunum and to safegaurd its inhabitants, constructed a wall around the city.

This wall is the largest surviving Roman city wall in the UK.
