Geocache Description:

JOTA stands for “Jamboree On The Air”. As many of you know my Ford Escape has the license plate “K7QNZ” and my Miata has “GEO HAM”. I have been licensed in Amateur Radio (Ham Radio) since high school. Once a year the Boy Scouts of America sponsors JOTA so that scouts from around the world can talk to other scouts by way of Amateur Radio.

On October 20th 2012, our Hellgate Amateur Radio Club set up operating radio stations here at Fort Missoula to introduce many scouts in the Missoula area to Amateur Radio including Radio Direction Finding and Morse Code. While amateur Radio and geocaching are not directly connected, many “hams” also do geocaching (like me) – both hobbies involve technology such that they are like “brother” hobbies. As such I was asked by the club to do a geocaching exercise for the scouts waiting to “get on the air”. This cache was just one of eight I set up and I decided to leave it in place and post it in commemoration of JOTA 2012!

This cache is the more difficult one that I set up for the boys and their families. However many “seasoned” geocachers will not have a problem with it. It is hardly an “original” hide but a fun one – especially if you are fairly new to our great hobby.

WINTER NOTE: This cache would be quite easy in the winter unless there is a lot of snow – like 6 feet!.

CACHE NOTE: Leave the wire hook in place - just slip the container ring off the hook and replace same way.
