Geocache Description:

This is our first cache hide.

Twenty eight pupils attended the Carlyle School (No. 4256) when it was opened on 18th October 1925 in a building relocated from North Prentice.  When the school closed on 9th December 1951, this building became the Carlyle Community Hall which was the focal point for the large local community. Extensions were added in 1955.

The scenes in the film, The Sapphires, which were set on the Cummeragunga mission were filmed at Carlyle Community Hall.  Houses were built for the filming and then removed.

The Sapphires is an Australian drama/comedy film about four indigenous women, Gail (Deborah Mailman), Julie (Jessica Mauboy), Kay (Shari Sebbens) and Cynthia (Miranda Tapsell), who are discovered by a talent scout (Chris O'Dowd), and form a music group called The Sapphires, travelling to Vietnam in 1968 to sing for troops during the war.

The Sapphires made its world premiere at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival and was theatrically released in Australia on 9th August 2012.

It was filmed in various locations in New South Wales including regional centres Albury, Corowa, Culcairn and Howlong during August and September of 2011.
