Just three minutes walk from Canberra Airport, next to the AFP office, this should be a popular Traditional Cache.
Spook City III continues in the same style as the previous two, with a larger cache container for TB's. It celebrates the successes
of the Australian Federal Police since their formation in 1979, following the Hilton Bombing. The AFP works both in Australia and overseas in 31 countries with similar organisations, primarily combating drug crimes and people smuggling, plus other key internationl areas. They have been an integral part of fighting crime in Australia, in particular after the murder of Assistant Commission Colin Winchester in Canberra on 10 January 1989. While the rumours ran riot on the reasons for the murder, often based around Mafia drug cartels in Bungendore, the reality was more prosaic, and resulted in the conviction of David Eastman, largely on circumstantial evidence, following a particularly meticulous investigation. The AFP moved recently into a re-fubished building known as the Edmund Barton Building on the south side of Lake Burley Griffin.
This cache is a genuine short walk from Canberra airport. Approach from the west side of the services station is best. The spot is surprisingly quiet and muggle free and a good spot to sit on the lawn and eat a sandwich. CITO is appreciated. Please return the cache container to the exact location it is in.
