31 Oct 1517, Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany. These statements included challenges of the sale of indulgences (forgiveness's) and the absolute authority of the pope, and were intended to be discussed and debated by university scholars. They were soon translated into German and spread throughout Germany and much of Europe. Luther desired only to debate the issues of Catholicism yet instead, started the Reformation of the church.
