Geocache Description:

Mayaguez 2010

Mayaguez 2010

This Cache is located in the main emblem of the Central American and Caribbean Games installed under the supervision of its creator, the Puerto Rican artist Edgardo Vega.

The artist relates that the path began five years ago, with works to be installed at the entrance of the town of Mayagüez. It was not until the last weeks of 2009 that the Organizing Committee accepted his proposal and urban design moved the cauldron and fire torches to bring the opening of the Games on 17 July.

"It took about four and a half months, since January this year," he said. Vega. "The cauldron is 50 feet high and consists of a cylinder 8 feet in diameter by 40 high. So has a base that is what we are ending now. It is a base of 10 feet. Will you have the 32 flagpoles in different countries around. "

The cauldron cone or cup is made of stainless steel, is eight feet in diameter at the bottom and 16 on top.

The concrete foundation is currently building in the square that is among the ballpark Isidoro "Cholo" García and Central Stadium, where the opening was.

"Cauldron designs are alluding to different sports in modern sculpture," says Vega. "The cauldron is completely done. I brought (to Puerto Rico) in two parts, but you have already installed the figures, making ... Has the burner gas up and all you will do is place it on the cylinder. "

"I was working on the issue of two-dimensional sculptures in modern materials," explains. "What I wanted to do was a link between traditional sculpture and modern sculpture. Aluminum, stainless steel and brass playing as liaison between the two. "
