BaBallou Nature / History Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

huggy_d1: With the current disc golf course right near the final cache, it doesn't make sense to try and replace it yet again. Thanks to all who enjoyed the history lesson over the years. Maybe someone local can find a way to use the various historical artifacts for their own multicache.

p.s. Thanks to Spring1 for their quick help with this cache.

Geocache Description:

Cache is an ammo can located near a nice, ahem, Nature Trail but can be reached with minimal bushwhacking. If you bike to final cache location, it better be a mountain bike, and you better like riding steps. It's a nice hike, so enjoy the walk. Of course you need to collect a little information and learn some historical facts long enough to complete the puzzle.

Danville was the last capital of the Confederacy, with that distinction lasting an entirety of 8 days. The full cabinet even met during those last days. A sign was erected to denote these historical facts at the listed coordinates.
Go to listed coordinates and look for sign (see signage photo below). On the sign are several key facts and figures.
Sign name : Q-#-A : save the # here : _____ (a)
Month, and LAST digit of Day news of Lee's surrender reached Danville (in number form) :
_____ (b) _____ (c)
{example: Jan 23 => b=1, c=3}
Go to Ballou Park (on same road as sign above for those without maps) to coordinates
N36° 34.415' W79° 25.239'.

At these coordinates are historical artifacts related to the tobacco growers, buyers, warehouseman, and their beasts of burden around the time of the early 1900's. Before this time, a bugle was used to announce the sale of tobacco.
On the largest / tallest artifact is a date the Foundry in Maryland created this artifact. There is also a plaque describing the details of it as well.

Save the last digit of the year the item was made here : _____ (d).

There is a smaller historical item. The plaque describing this item and its intended use, it shows the month this item was dedicated.

Save the Month the item was placed here : _____ (e).
Fill in the chart below to help locate the cache

a=____, b=____, c=____, d=____, e=____
Ok, now use all the facts together to get the cache coordinates by replacing the information saved into these coordinates:

N36° 3b.7dc' W07e° 25.a78' --- N36° 3___.7___ ___' W07____° 25.____78'
Cache is an ammo can.
[Disclaimer: if you get hurt, it's your fault. Cache location and clues are planned so you don't have to get hurt hunting for this, so before you take that one extra step that might get you hurt, remember this little suggestion.... don't do it!]
