This cache is placed on the rim of the crater of a picturesque but spectacular looking small volcano, it is off the usual tourist trails. The volcano is complete with a good sized crater. The views are very fine especially of the nearby and equally spectactular Montana Arena.
The direct climb will take about 20 minutes to get to the cache. It is recommended that you walk around the rim of the crater to fully appreciate the views. The main problem with this climb is that it is steep whichever route is taken and the amount of small stones underfoot. To reach the parking area, coming from Corralejo, drive through the traffic lights in Villaverde and turn right after the Cooperative building. A 4x4 is not necessary. The walk is unsuitable for young children but may be suitable for older children under supervision, look and decide. You will definitely need walking boots or sturdily soled trainers. The climb however is short.
The easiest way to climb the volcano is to climb up the rocky outcrop near the parking place, then from there just head up to the ridge above. Do not descend this way, there are too many small rocks and pebbles. To descend, come down the volcano to the left of where you arrived on the rim (further north a little). Here there is some bedrock. half way down take the narrow "path" you can see heading off to the left towards the outcrop.
Do not attempt to climb the volcano from the other side, there are far too many small stones from the collapsed pits on that side of the volcano.
As with all walking in Fuerteventura, because of the rocky terrain, ALWAYS look where you place your feet, if you wish to admire the scenery, stop walking and plant your feet securely.
