Geocache Description:

Pine Street Cemetery is still an active cemetery, and it's extremely well taken care of.

The older sections of the cemetery are much larger than the newer section, so there are plenty of interesting gravestones to look at.

There are also several historically notable people buried here, including:
  • Samuel Finley Vinton - A laywer who served as a Congressman for twenty-two years, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee during the Mexican War, and the founding father of the U.S. Department of the Interior. Vinton County in Ohio is named after him.

  • Peter Francis Augustin LeClerq, Eulalie Colombe Marret LeClercq, and Rosalie LeClercq Doszedardski - first people from France to move to Gallipolis with the first settlers in 1790.

  • Mary Louise Cadot LeClercq - First person born in Gallipolis - 1791.

The cache is a camo painted waterproof matchstick container hanging in a very sappy pine tree.  Hand lotion works very well to get rid of the tree sap.  No need to take the container off the tree, just remove the top and sign the log.  Please ensure the lid is screwed on correctly to maintain the dry log.  Thanks and  Happy Caching.

Please be respectful of the Cemetery Dawn to Dusk hours and of those laid to rest there.
