Geocache Description:

Frenchland tower overlooks Moffat from the east.  It consists of the original 16th centuary tower house and a later addition of a stair wing. Not too much is known of its history although it was probably built by Robert Frenchie of Frenchland.  Today the gables still stand firm three storeys high. Inside the remains of stair wells and fireplaces can be seen. It now stands in the middle of good grazing land and care must be taken when cattle are present.

The cache is probably best had by parking in the town (station car park) and enjoying the short walk to the edge of town possibly taking in another cache.  Moffat has many signposted walks and routes are displayed on a board at station car park. One of these walks passes through Frenchland Farm and along the track to Jenny's View. Signs for this walk can be seen at Rogermoor Farm on the A708 (probable cache and dash start point). As always please take care around livestock and leave gates as you find them. The route to the cache takes you past the field where the tower stands, a sharp eye will be required as a crest lies between the path and tower. The cache is not hidden in the tower so please do not disturb it.

To find the cache you will have to follow the signed walk until the kissing gate with the stone marking Jenny's View. Boots or wellies would be advisable. In summer there will likely be cattle or sheep in the field. In winter it might be a bit damp but the cattle are usually in the barn then. You'll have to hop over a wee stream so beware after heavy rain as it may swell a bit!
