Brisk trade between the colonial powers and the Seychelles in the late 17th century attracted many pirates. One of the most infamous pirates was the Frenchman La Vasseur, also known as La Buse. The artist Antonio Fillippin knows many fabled stories of pirates and readily tells visitors about the great adventures of Captain La Buse. Not only is it rewarding to listen to these exciting stories which combine fiction and facts, it is also worth a trip to the hidden artist workshop. Between Anse Soleil and Baie Lazare Antonio Fillippin carves wooden sculptures which have often served as a present for state guests to the Seychelles.
