This dog friendly cache is in the Westerly Town Forest. The entrance to the forest is located at the end of Laurel Ave in Westerly, RI. This cache is just off the blue trail. The hike to the cache is probably about a third of a mile and the trails have lots of roots and stones so be careful. Also, even though there is no hunting allowed in the area, you might want to wear orange anyway during hunting seasons.
Sammy, our red labradoodle child wanted us to place a cache in his new favorite romping grounds. I think he was jealous of his sister's successful cache in the Ashaway cemetary that he is not allowed to visit (no dog's allowed in that cemetary).
FTF prizes are a nyla-bone for your pooch and a geocoin for you!
Feel free to take the following without replacing:
- Dog treats (please take just one per dog).
- Poop bags (but only take what you need - don't take the whole roll).
The dog treats and poop bags will be replenished every few weeks by me or my wife. There are also a few toys for the kids in our lives. Please leave a small toy in exchange for the toy you take out - standard geocaching courtesy rules apply.
The cache is a simple find, just off the blue trail. Getting to the cache is a short hike and lots of people walk and run these trails with their dogs off leashes. Be careful, under the leaves there are lots of roots and rocks you could trip over. Take extra care with little ones tagging along.
The cache is a standard otterbox style container big enough for some dog treats, the log book, and a few small toys (matchbox car sized toys).
There is no hunting allowed in the Westerly Town Forest. This said, you never know! Use common sense whenever you go out into nature.
