Emmet County is located in the northwestern tip of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, on the sunset side of Michigan.
Arriving in Emmet County from any direction is convenient and hassle-free. I-75 is usually the quickest route from the south/southeast; the interstate skirts Emmet County to the east, with access routes cutting across at Gaylord, Vanderbilt, Wolverine, Indian River and Mackinaw City.
U.S. Highway 31 travels into Emmet County from Charlevoix, Traverse City and points southwest, and U.S. 131 intersects into Emmet County from the south-central part of Michigan; it runs directly northward from the Grand Rapids area.
When heading to Emmet County from the North, take I-75 south across the Mackinac Bridge to land in Emmet County.
