Storytelling is the conveying of events in words, images and sounds, often by improvisation or embellishment. Stories have been shared in every culture as a means of entertainment, education, cultural preservation and to instill moral values. This geocache is to honor Pastor Randy Newton - long time resident of Leaf River, IL. He is known in local circles for his funny and charming Little Niki stories - stories that teach common sense values and kindness to small children thru the character of Little Niki, a small mischievous monkey who always seems to get into big trouble, and learns a valuable lesson about kindness and goodness in the end.
My kids were raised on Little Niki stories, and I value them as part of my past as well. If you are lucky - you can walk into the church on the corner here on any given Sunday morning to find Randy telling his wonderful stories, surrounded by little children sitting on the floor around him. It's a dying art, and it's good to see Randy carrying it forward in our age of technology where simple storytelling is becoming a thing of the past.
