McCrackenville Cache Letterbox Hybrid
lowerfalls: Visited the cache area on 8/7/02. Stones had been turned over and thrown around. I have no idea where the cache is. It's in a new place or gone. I couldn't find it. The area looks quite different than when the cache was placed.

Cache is along side a paved trail in the newest park in Rochester, NY. It is in a small group of medium size stones.
The McCracken family moved from Batavia, NY to Rochester, NY shortly after the War of 1812. By 1826 they produced a map of an area, part residential and part commercial, which was called McCrackenville. The first building was a saw mill which was used to saw boards for the largest wooden arch bridge ever built. This bridge was built across the Genesee River at grade, which in this area is about 200 feet above river level. Barnes, Rochester History, January, 1974.The residential portion was a failure but paper mills, flour miils, carpert mills, veneering mills and furniture manufacturing existed in the area as late as the 1960's. The last building being used on the site burned on the evening of September, 15, 1964. The ruins were eventually covered with rubble from construction in downtown Rochester.
