Climbing Mt Bartle Frere in Wooroonooran National Park you will experience one of the finest biodiversities found in North Queensland. Look particularly for Bowenia, a species of Cycads as well as for Oraniopsis Appendiculata, a palm appearing similar to a coconut tree.1
At last at the Majuba Creek crossing you will have to answer the question: Should I go to Broken Nose or to the main summit of this beautiful mountain?
To do both on one day would be certainly too demanding and virtually impossible. Moreover, the linking path is heavily overgrown and not to find at all
.
Left will be a steep two hours walk uphill to Broken Nose, a bald rocky outcrop with an
unforgettable magnificent view
from East to South to West. Being attentive you will collect information which will be essential to log the Earthcache that refers to this southern part of the mountain.
To the right after crossing the creek you will have to be ready for a walk
not less arduous
. The path will lead you in about four hours to the summit of Mount Bartle Frere at 1622 m ASL. Be prepared for a quite demanding section of boulder climbing. You will be rewarded by the
satisfaction of having made it and if you are lucky by some views down to the coast and to the Tablelands on the other side. Besides, there are two more caches to be found and logged
.
Still pondering what to do you might throw a coin or dice to come to a decision.
Whatever you decide, do
NOT
forget to supply yourself here with the
last drinking water available
.
Anyway, your
mind will probably settle
while finding and logging a Geocache close by.
Dry weather and happy hunting!
BYO pen, please!
