Geocache Description:

Monroe Park, just inside Fauquier County in Goldvein, VA. Picnicing, football/soccer fields and walking paths available.

In the hunt for this one, your hunt could be visible to "diners" nearby. Please try to be stealthy and not give away its location to the curious passers by, landscape workers and park visitors, especially on the weekends. It's a DECON container, about 150 ft. from the nearest parking. Good hunting, there are briars on the way to the cache. Watch out for barbed wire, an old fence still exists nearby. Ratings have been adjusted due to thorns, ivy, etc. GPSr reception goes from 9 ft. of accuracy parking), to 29 ft. of accuracy (at cache), due to terrain and canopy. COORDS are averaged, others listed in logs may help too. The trees near the cache are painted, some tagged, so I don't know if this area will be developed in the future. This park is growing as more area has been added and is being developed for the future. When it's open (hours vary by season), check out the gold mining museum, it shows evidence of the area and activities here over time. Everyone always wonders, and many have asked, "What the heck are those large round objects behind the museum, near Rt. 17?" The large orbs/spheres are called "hornet balls." They were used as part of the gold mining process. The gold miners put raw mined ore into the balls (there are baffles inside), and the balls were slowly rotated (much like a cement mixer) in large frames which held the balls. The ore rolled around inside, smashing against itself and the baffles, making it easier to separate the gold from rock/dirt using various screens and seives. I hope I've clearly explained, but if you have more questions, and the museum is open, feel free to ask the staff. Take note of the signs upon leaving the park through the gate.
