The trailhead is located off Old NC Hwy 86 about halfway between Hillsborough and Carrboro. The coordinates for the trailhead are N 35° 58.768 / W 079° 6.304. You may want to use your GPS to locate the trailhead since it is easy to miss, I know where it is and usually drive right past it. The first part of the hike, a little less than one mile, is very easy along a gravel/dirt road. The last 100 to 200 yards is bushwhacking straight up hill.
The cache is a fairly small rectangular Rubbermaid container only about 1.5 inches thick (see attached picture for image of container). Please keep this in mind when deciding what to swap. The cache is wrapped in a black trash bag for protection and camouflage.
One warning. I found a tick on my clothes after returning home. As with any outdoor activity, especially here in the South and when the temperatures start to rise, please check yourself, your kids, dog, etc. thoroughly after caching for any critters that may have hopped on for a ride.
Be sure and check out the topographical image, 3D map, and trail profile attached, very interesting way to look at a trail.
The container started with the following items:
- 3 Model Planes
- 4 Squirt Guns
- 2 Decks of Miniature Playing cards
- 1 Set of Blast balls (please don't give these to small kids)
- Small bag of bubble gum for you
- Small bag of dog treats for your hiking companion
