To find this cache you will embark on a journey to what feels like the end of the earth, into the heart of the culture of one of the most traditional peoples of Colombia.
There are several ways to arrive at Punta Gallinas which is the northern most point of South America. Be prepared for a long and eventful journey, to sleep in hammocks, eat a lot of fish, see wonderful and breathtaking landscapes, with the opportunity to desconnect yourself from the modern world.
We recommend not to hire a tour from Riohacha or Bogota as it's more expensive and possibly less chances to connect with the locals. Instead, you can arrive in Riohacha, take a taxi to Uribia [7 USD / nov-12] and then find a 4WD going to Cabo de la Vela (you won't be the only traveler) [6 USD / nov-12]. Ask the driver to take you to Daniel's place in Cabo de la Vela (here you will probably have to stay a night). Daniel can organise an unforgetable expedition to Punta Gallinas [75 USD - roundtrip / nov-12] where you will stay at the Hospedaje Kijoru.
No matter how you arrive to Punta Gallinas, the guardian of the cache will be waiting for you at Hospedaje Kijoru. To find this place you can ask any local for Victoria (the manager) or just Kijoru. Once you arrive ask for Andrea, the guardian of the cache, and:
- Greet her in Wayuu by saying: oütnüstaya /outnús tayá/ *the accent means you have to stress the sylable.
- Introduce yourself in spanish: me llamo ___________, soy de _____________ [my name is ___________, I'm from ___________]
- Say the magic words: asaja wane kasa /asája wané kasá/ [i'm looking for something]
She will bring you the cache and then you must say thank you in Wayuu by saying anayawat /anáyawat/
