The British novelist Jane Austen settled in the Village of Chawton in 1809, and
after that time she wrote her 6 major novels.
- Sense and Sensibility (hence the name of this cache :-) )
- Pride and Prejudice
- Mansfield Park
- Emma
- Northanger Abbey
- Persuasion
It is well worth spending some time looking around the Village and paying a
visit to Jane Austens House, which is open to the public (there is a charge)
the following times: -1st March to 30th November daily 11-00 am 4-30pm, January, February and December. Saturday and Sundays only.
If you spend some time wandering around the quaint Village of Chawton you
should find lots of references to Jane Austen and her novels, there is also
a Public House and a tea-rooms named after her sister Cassandra.
