[ENG] SAN PIETRI ISLAND
From ancient origins, the island was inhabited when the city of Venice did not exist.
The island, once occupied by a fortress, was one of the first settlements of Venice.
Originally called Olivolo, perhaps due to the presence of olive trees, took the name of the district by a castle that the early Venetians erected or found there.
It was always a religious symbol for the city: it was the seat of the bishop Castellano, depending on the patriarch of Grado, and preserves the body of the first patriarch of Venice - Lorenzo Giustiniani.
