Bournemouth's Past: Bonus Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Lost2011: Well this is it. Only Jon Egging cache remains. This bonus cache had 27 favourites, making it my 2nd most popular cache of all time upon archiving, behind The A-MAZE-ING cache with 37 favourites. I think Jon Egging may overtake both in time, as it's currently on 24 favourite points. [I like a good stat!]

Obviously, the favourite points for this one wasn't for the quality of the cache itself, but rather the thanks given for the whole series. And I would like to thank you all for such fantastic comments. :)

This cache had a strange story where it went missing for 3 months this year without anyone realising. Someone had found the cache by accident, taken it home, signed up to geocaching and then forgot about it! Great story! I love those kind of stories! :)

This series has had a great 18 months but now it is time to archive. Thanks for all the finds. If you haven't already, enjoy the Bournemouth History series, which will also be archived in 2015.

Geocache Description:

This is my town. I live here. I love it.

So this is it. You should have found 10 other stand alone caches, or maybe fewer if you had worked it out, and you have arrived at this point after taking a journey through Bournemouth, visiting a mix of urban and residential areas, and hopefully learning a little bit of history along the way.

Now you need to find where you put all the numbers you should have found on your travels and match them up to the letters to solve the location of the final bonus. If anyone would like to contact me regarding missing numbers, then providing you have found the cache, I shall share this information.

The cache can be found within 2 miles of the co-ords provided. I have chosen these co-ords as again it has its own history, being one of the worst affected areas for bombing during the Second World War.

Bournemouth had its share of bombing. More than fifty air raids left 219 people dead and 726 injured. Two thousand two hundred and seventy bombs rained down on the town, destroying around 250 buildings. Another 13,590 needed repairs.

Winton and Charminster's worst raid was at 3.30 in the morning of November 16, 1940. A member of the Home Guard on duty at Moordown bus depot claimed in the moonlight to have opened fire on an aircraft with Italian markings. Records suggest this was a purely German attack - there were no Italian units in flying distance.

Parachute landmines were dropped on the Alma Road, St Leonards Road and Malmesbury Park Road areas. More than 50 people were killed and around 150 injured in the raid which also hit other parts of the town.

Alma Road Elementary School was destroyed by a direct hit and a number of houses were flattened in and around Kings Road.

The final location I have chosen as it is very near to the first house I lived in when my family moved to Bournemouth many years ago, when Chase Manhatten Bank came to town.

I hope you have enjoyed this series as much as I have creating it. Thanks for taking the time to complete it.

Congratulations the77club for FTF of this bonus cache, making you the first to complete the series, picking up 6 FTF's along the way.
