Cache is a lock n lock box. Clear in color. Has trade items and also big enough for quite a few more. Just a small steep walk is involved in obtaining this cache.
Hales Bar Dam sits on former Native American lands, and its disturbed by a Cherokee curse. It is a historical sight with a dark past. Built in 1905, the dam's purpose was to keep the whirlpools, along the Tn River at bay. According to the legend, the dam is cursed by Native Americans. The most notorious whirlpool was named The Suck and it is said that Native Americans, who lived on the land, could see the souls of their ancestors being sucked into the massive pool. Anyone close enough to the whirlpool, would supposedly, be sucked in by their ancestors, which lead to their watery grave. The main whirlpool is inside the dam. I have seen it and believe it is eerie. We use to fish all over this dam when I was younger inside and out. Now its been turned into a marina. check it out. its cool place to camp, rent cabins or go on a ghost tour. There have been reports of strange black figures, chanting, and even the spirits of drowning Native Americans. Hales Bar is the only dam that the public is allowed to go and investigate, which makes it quite an attraction for the paranormal experts and an eye opener to the sceptics. If your a paranormal guru like me, you have watched the investigations of this dam on Ghost Adventures and Ghost Hunters. There is also down below the dam, if you'd like to take a boat, a watery graveyard on the rivers edge. This grave yard was flooded along with homes when the water was turned loose through the new dam on shellmound rd, just up the road aways from Hales Bar. You can find out more about this sight online. Enjoy the cache and the beautiful view. I'm proud of our county (Marion) it is a beautiful, beautiful place to live. From Hale Town to South Pittsburg. Hope you enjoy it as much as marion countians do. HAPPY CACHING! <[:OD}
