Kelly Foods opened in Jackson around 1938 as a processed meat distributor. They were probably best known for manufacturing the "Hy-Power" brand of canned chili and canned tamales (they were one of the first companies to market canned tamales), but also made beef stew, brunswick stew, chili no beans, Vienna sausage, potted meat, and other products. The company declared bankruptcy and closed around 2003. For a long time the sign out front had neon lighting and lit up that portion of Airways Blvd. Sadly the sign is no longer there, it was removed a year or two after I placed the cache. Please be careful of traffic, Airways Blvd can be busy especially around getting off work time (normal). There is broken glass around...too much for me to sweep up...but you won't have to root around anyway. And there can be muggles around.
