Birnam Wood Comes to Dunsinane Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

drrichardh: It is with a good deal of sadness that I have to archive this hide. Dont' know if it was the recent high winds or the heavy rains but the hide zone is now quite damaged. This geocache had been hidden at the base of tree which has fallen over.onto it. At this point I don't think this area is a safe place for geocacher so archiving it is the only option.

Thank you to all the geocachers who visited over the years.

Geocache Description:

This geocache brings you to the community of Whitehall just off Airport Road and DE Route 273. All the street names in this community are references to the writings of William Shakespeare.  For this find you will be focusing on a small part of Shakespeare’s play “MacBeth” – the part where MacBeth gets a nasty surprise. Hopefully you will have a far different experience.

MacBeth, a fierce Scottish warrior has committed so many crimes in his quest to be king  he fears he will be killed by those he has harmed.  Consulting three witches he learns he will never be defeated until Birnam Wood comes to Dunsinane – the name of MacBeth’s castle. Since forests can’t move he thinks he is safe.  Those MacBeth has harmed form an army to fight him. But since he is a tricky guy they decide to sneak up on him and take him by surprise. They camouflage themselves by fastening branches, twigs, and other parts of Birnam wood onto their clothes then sneak onto the castle grounds.  At one point MacBeth gazes out at the forest and thinks he sees it moving. Spoiler Alert – it is. The camouflaged soldiers have unknowingly brought Birnam wood to Dunsinane and get their revenge.

The parking coordinates are for an entrance to  Lewden Green Park on Dunsinane Drive. A few of the folks who live here refer to this strip of forest as Birnam Wood. In this area the Park is mostly forest and a few, sometimes muddy, paths.

Follow the path and make your way back to the hide.  As you go along you will see there is ample material to gather for camouflage and the object you are seeking is, itself, hidden and camouflaged. You are seeking a Lock and Lock container about 4 inches wide, 6 inches long and 7 inches high covered in black duck tape. There is ample room for swag and some smaller travel bugs.

Good  Luck
