How often do you see a road removed. Well, that happened here in March of 2012.
This is an excellent example of a pocket estuary, just outside the Swinomish Indian Reservation.
Pocket estuaries are somewhat enclosed bodies of salt water with freshwater influences that are connected to a larger estuary. This estuary is connected to Similk Bay and Skagit Bay.
Tidal influences have been restored for the salt marsh to the North with a direct connection to the bay by removing the road and culvert. Now there are better conditions for fish. Juvenal Chinook Salmon (fry) will spend their time here in early spring after they leave the Skagit River.
Enjoy the view and the wildlife.
And there is no need to cross the fence.
